La Cantunera lets you experience Sciacca in its most authentic way: at a leisurely pace, amid ancient stone and tranquil silence. You're in the "Cadda," the old Giudecca: a cozy, quaint, and surprisingly quiet neighborhood... yet just a stone's throw from the heart of the city.

The word "Cantunera" comes from the Greek "kanduni" and literally means corner. Traditionally, the cantunera is the corner of a house or building where two streets meet, and in Sicily, it has always been more than architecture: a small stage for everyday life.

And this is precisely the meaning of our home, La Cantunera: it's located on the corner of two streets, in the historic district, in a spot where the town bustles and breathes. Here, the light changes throughout the day, footsteps echo through the alleys, and every return seems to transport you back to Sciacca's authentic atmosphere, made of glimpses, encounters, and small moments that linger.

The Jewish community once lived here, and you can still sense it in every detail: narrow alleys, hidden courtyards, evocative arches, and the traces of ancient synagogues, between Porta Palermo and the Cortile Cattano/Via Cittadella area. It's a place you don't just visit: you listen to.

La Cantunera is located in the heart of the CADDA (ancient JEWISH QUARTER) and is a two-story house.

The double bedroom is on the 1st FLOOR, accessible only by stairs (❌ there is no elevator).

The accommodation is entirely for your exclusive use: once you enter, the house is all yours.
In short: privacy, quiet, and the atmosphere of the historic center… without sharing its chaos.

🅿️ PARKING (PUBLIC, SHORT DISTANCE):

Being in the historic center, there is no parking under the house.

However, you can easily park in nearby public car parks, such as:
• Porta Palermo Parking
• Mariano Rossi Square

✅ For the more "courageous" (and with a small car) there is also Cortile Cattano, very close, but with narrow roads that require good driving skills.

• Check-out: by 10:00

🔑 CHECK-IN: IN PERSON OR INDEPENDENT

Whenever possible, we'll meet you in person (usually by 9:00 PM) to let you in calmly and give you all the useful tips about the neighborhood and the house.

If you arrive later, or prefer to be independent, we can arrange an independent check-in with clear instructions sent before arrival.

ℹ️ SOMETHING TO KNOW:

• ZTL / ACCESS BY CAR (POSSIBLE LIMITATIONS):
At certain times of the day and during certain periods of the year, the historic center may have traffic restrictions (ZTL) or restricted traffic zones. To avoid stress, the best solution is to leave your car in the recommended parking lots and enjoy Sciacca on foot.

• NARROW ALLEYS & HISTORICAL CENTER:
La Cantunera is located in the heart of CADDA: ancient, charming... but narrow streets. If you arrive by car, we recommend parking in the main car parks (e.g., Porta Palermo / Piazza Mariano Rossi) and walking a short distance to the apartment.

🛏️ USE OF 2ND ROOM (bookings for 2 guests)

If there are two of you and you'd like to use the sofa bed or cot, please let us know in advance so we can prepare it as best as possible.

⚠️ MOVEMENTS AND MOBILITY

🚶‍♀️ ON FOOT: Here's the beauty of it—you're already in the HISTORIC CENTER, perfect for moving around the alleys, restaurants, and points of interest without a car.
🚗 CAR recommended if you want to comfortably explore the beaches and surrounding areas.
🚌 Local buses are present, but with limited frequency.
🚕 Taxis available (❌ Uber and similar not available).

📜 HOUSE RULES TO KNOW AND ACCEPT BEFORE YOUR STAY:

📝 CONTRACT + 🆔 IDENTIFICATION (MANDATORY):

After booking you will receive:
• the Tourist Rental Agreement to be signed digitally — we use the written form as required for rental agreements (L. 431/1998, art. 1 c.4 + DL 50/2017).
• the Link for Document Registration (ID), necessary for communication to the PS authorities (art. 109 TULPS / Alloggiati Web).

🗑️ WASTE MANAGEMENT (MANDATORY):

Separate waste collection is mandatory and must be followed according to the municipal calendar, which you will receive in the house manual and which will be explained upon check-in.
🚫 Waste should never be left inside the house, for any reason.
🕗 Every evening, you must leave the bins with the bags outside the gate, following the indicated schedule.

🚭 SMOKING:

Smoking is prohibited inside the house (including e-cigarettes). Smoke detectors will sound the alarm.
✅ Smoking is permitted on the balcony/outdoor areas.

🔑⚡ ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION

When you leave your home, we kindly ask you to turn off lights and air conditioning and check that all faucets are turned off. A small gesture that makes a difference.

💧 WATER CONSUMPTION

We encourage you to use water wisely and avoid waste: in Sicily, it's a precious resource, especially during the summer. Thank you for your cooperation.
